Jarida is an open-source community co-founded in Nairobi, Kenya. We empower creative and technical talent to deliver world-class solutions to global challenges, with a primary focus on Africa.
Mission
To create and share open, innovative, and practical software that addresses real-world problems — while enabling African and global developers to showcase their talent on the world stage.
Our inaugural open-source product was the Kenyan Sign Language Translator. Our current focus is Goose In A Pond — a fully local, privacy-first AI home assistant built on Block's open-source Goose agent.
Impact over code
We build for real problems, not portfolio points. Every project must demonstrate a clear need.
Open by default
All our software is open-source under Apache 2.0. Documentation and content under CC Attribution.
Credit where due
Every feature credits the people who built it. Contributions are named, not absorbed.
African authenticity
World-class solutions rooted in African context — not exported templates applied to new geography.
Privacy as a right
Local-first, data-minimal design is our default. Cloud connectivity is always opt-in.
Inclusive collaboration
We welcome contributors from anywhere. Technical depth is not a prerequisite for contribution.
